Kinder Morgan – Tampaplex Terminal Marine Structures

Matrix PDM Engineering worked with Kinder Morgan to develop the Tampaplex Terminal in Tampa, FL., which handles both liquid and dry bulk materials. The job consisted of four combined projects resulting in an increase of imports and exports of liquid ammonia used for fertilizer production. Matrix PDM performed a dock extension allowing for larger ships, as well as a design and development of a control system and computer program installed to operate a new air condenser system that controls the ammonia compressors pressure for the 50,000 ton tank pressure.

Final upgrades included refurbishment of the existing ammonia dock, loading arm upgrade and metering upgrade.

New ammonia unloading dock, dolphins, walkways and handrails were installed approximately 450 feet east of the existing dock. For safety, flood lights were provided on the east side of the new dock.

Upgrades performed by Matrix PDM included the installation of a 3,500 gpm pump system and a 4,500 foot dual pipeline, installation of a dock wall and ammonia dock as well as valves, piping, transformer, electrical and controls. The pressure tested piping, valves and arm were installed to meet the U.S. Coast Guard regulations.
